About Gale Gate Heavy Horses


The Gardner family have been involved with the Heavy Horse industry for many years. Mr Gardner began breeding Heavy horses on a trading estate near Wetherby many years ago increasing his stock from just one horse to over nine mares and one stallion. Since moving to Gale Gate Farm in Upper Dunsforth he now concentrates his efforts into his teams. He currently has more than six Heavy horses (Geldings) which he works every day. Mr Gardner is a keen conservationist who believes in traditional farming methods. His teams are not ornamental show horses given pride of place at his farm. They are working horses and as such can often be seen carrying out traditional farming skills. Mr Gardner also trains teams in the skills of Chain harrowing and carriage work. He also promotes Heavy Horses in the community and regularly attends Heavy Horse shows all over Europe. His teams can also be seen at many local events in the York area. He currently has contracts with John Smith brewery and attends many business promotions at York racecourse. Mr Gardner and his family are renowned for their horsemanship throughout the UK, particularly in Yorkshire where over the year they have won many prizes at the Great Yorkshire Show. Gale Gate Heavy Horses also have a large selection of carriages for hire for both corporate promotions and private functions.
